Worried student

Dear Amy:

I´m searching for an institution to do my social service, it was really difficult to find a place with an attractive program, finally I did.

When I have my first interview there, the chairman told me it would be a good experience because I will have the chance to develop many skills in group and individual therapy with children and adults.

Yesterday was my first day and not only was it boring, also was it a waste of time, I spent four hours copying chapters of a book for an online course this institution is going to give.

Today, nothing changed and I wonder if it´s what I´m going to do for the next six months, so I asked a girl what she had been doing there, she told me: nothing but printing copies.

Maybe the best is to quit and start in another place, what would you do?

Love, worried student.

  1. Well it's difficult to leave a chance without trying, you should talk to the chairman and explain him you want to do something different.
A week will be enogh to know if this situation can change, and if it doesn't you must quit and start something different in order to learn more while doing your service.

  2. Hello, dear Worried Student!

The objective of this kind of jobs is that it has to bring you the opportunity of practicing the knowledge you got on your studies. It´s not easy to find a place to do the social service, but you did. Although is it true that the beginning always is difficult, you can prove in this place for a week and, if you aren´t satisfied with the assignments you have, you can devise something to change this situation.

You can frequently ask to the chairman if there will be therapies soon or if there is other kind of work you can do. He has to give you other options. Otherwise, you can start searching for another place where you learn more. It´s a good moment to do it. Remember that if you enjoy your activities, you will make them successfully.

    Best regards:

    Amy (Hilcias B.S.)
